Figure Review...Marvel Select Deadpool

This is a figure that SpartanSmurf #1 picked up at the MonsterCon.

I wish I got a picture of the unboxing, but sorry!

Let me just say...WOW!  The MOTUC figures have met their match in almost every way!

I mean, Deadpool was only $25!  He is massive!  Has tons of articulation!  And lots of accessories!

Here are some pics and my review!

This is the basic figure.

Here is his diorama and stand

Here are his accessories, minus one sai.  Trust me.  He came with another one.

Here he is with pistol, about to draw the other.

Here he is with machine gun and sai!
I used the extra large pics here to show the detail!

First thing I noticed was the heft of the figure.  He probably weighs two pounds altogether.  That stand is a chunk!

Deadpool has very nice articulation, with double jointed knees and ball joints in lots of places.  His arms have swivel joints, but his shoulders and hips have ball joints.  His wrists swivel.  His ankles seem to have a rocker, but they are sort of weak.

Lots of detail on Deadpool.  He has extra knives, ammo pouches, a teargas grenade, holsters, etc.

I don't know much about Deadpool.  I read a couple of the comics since my son has become interested.  They really are not for children.  Maybe I shouldn't let him read that garbage.  But one thing is certain, this is an awesome figure!

Compared to the OTHER great figure line of today, MOTUC, he has them beat.  Shame on Mattel!  They could sell MOTUC figures in comics stores for a comparable price.  I mean Diamond is not even mainly a toy company!

Deadpool has triple the accessories of most MOTUC figures, he is taller and even more hefty, he came with a diorama stand.  Mattel says they cannot sell their figures for less than the $28 plus shipping.  This just proves them wrong.  I do not know there deal on the amount they produce, but it could definitely sell better at comic stores.  They are holding out on us collectors!

I saw a Juggernaut Marvel Select figure at the Tangled Web last night.  Same price.  $25!  That figure was three times the size of a MOTUC figure.  In fact, Three times the size of Deadpool!  Granted, it didn't come with as much other swag, but still.

I think I found my next toy, if they make a Thor.  Or Wolverine.  (The Spider-Man looked kind of small...and came with a big ruined car.  I just don't think that is as great.  Maybe a Spider-Man and Hobgoblin!)

MOTUC Figure Review.....SPIKOR

Sorry for the break....the SpartanNerd has been back at work....his real job....where being a nerd is not required and likely not welcome....

First I have to say...I hope the MOTUC subscription line lives on.  Today it is at 72% with three days left to go. I personally can't afford it.  But it has been the best toy-line ever made.  Masters of the Universe Classics has delivered the kind of action figures people have wanted for years, including me.  I don't see why it couldn't have survived at retail.  Slap a $10 price tag on them, offer the core characters.  People would buy them.  I would have a complete collection to decorate my office/class/nerdspace!

But I can only afford to cherry pick the bargains or get the characters I really want.....  But I'll take whatever figures any of the Hub City Geeks would like to donate!

Which brings me to SPIKOR.

I purchased the "Untouchable Master of Evil Combat" at the MonsterCon.  I paid $50 for him plus some loose complete vintage figures.  I probably paid too much, considering it was only a few days before the Big Lots thing happened.  ( I couldn't have known :(  )

Why did I want him so badly...I never had him as a kid.  And I think that figures into it.  He looks visceral and barbaric.  When I saw him and when I opened the package, I felt like a little SpartanNerd again...with a new toy I always wanted and was lucky to find in stock on the shelf.

So...I have no box photos.  Sorry!  Impatient!  But he came in the basic castle grayskull package ....Yada..Yada..Yada...  And you know you can find that Bio out there on the internet if you really care.

For this review, I'm trying something different with the pictures.....But anyway.

Spikor is one of those figures apparently painted over a plain black blank.  This doesn't bother me.  I don't see any slop.  His joints are quite tight.  I have had no trouble posing him or making him stand.  But his armor does keep him from moving his shoulders up but so far.

That armor is what makes Spikor....Spikor!  And such armor it is.  It causes him to be totally covered in spikes, from the waist up!

Have you ever played around with a gumball from a gumball tree, especially when the gumballs are green?  That's what the spikes are like.

You might struggle to get the head off....It is covered in spikes too.  It hurt my thumbs the first time!
Now it pops off just fine.

I saw Pixel Dan's video about Spikor, and he mentioned that getting the armor back on was tough.  So I heeded his warning, and did not remove the armor.....Not at first anyway....

I succumbed to temptation.......WHY!

I saw his regular torso underneath.  He has an ab crunch.  That's it.  Then...The pegs did not want to go back into the hole....on one side anyway....WHY DIDN"T I LISTEN!!

Now that's bothering me.

Kind of a dark picture.  Sorry.  I promise the pegs are not in the hole.

Spikor comes with some stuff.  His left hand is a trident.  Mattel included a long trident and a short trident.  This is to create poses with both vintage looks.  The original had an extending action feature.  Sadly, the longer trident had bent spikes in package, and requires some hair dryer work if I ever get around to it.

Bent middle spike:(

That's what that other hand is for.....

Spikor also included a normal hand.  So now you can display him with no trident.  He doesn't have to be handicapped!

They say that Trap Jaw/Roboto/Hurricane Hordak parts can fit in the wrist hole.  Cool.  But I don't own those figure or accessories for them to give it a try.

He also included a spiky club.  Which makes Spikor the president of Club Spikey!  (Other members...Cloud Stryfe...Sonic the Hedgehog....Shau Khan.....Stegosaurus)

How do I rate Spikor....He's incredibly cool..  He looks very barbaric and intimidating.  What more could I ask for.  But he has a few strikes against him.  The bent trident, and the "armor doesn't go back on completely" problem.  So I grade him 3/5.  He was marked $40.  For $40, he should be flawless.  I wouldn't complain if I picked him up at Big Lots for $10.

What's your rating?

Drop me a comment???

"Yada Yada Yada...."

MONSTERCON

It's Official.  I am a NERD!

Did anyone really second guess that?  But I made my way to my first CON this weekend.  And It was a blast!

The MonsterCon is owned by someone associated with "The Walking Dead."

Being a cheapskate, and plenty busy, even for a teacher in the summer, I only made it to Saturday.  But Saturday was enough to just about lure me to just about every local CON I can make!  The people were so laid back.  They came unashamedly in costume.  They came enthusiastic.  They came in large numbers.

And there was so much to do!  I went specifically to play Magic:The Gathering.  They had a free draft tournament.  (Free cards!)  There wasn't much gaming, tho.  This CON is in its infancy, so…..  But the gaming will come.

The largest presence there was of the Carolina Ghostbusters and the Madalorian Mercs.  These guys were over the top, with film accurate costumes and weapons.  The groups are also charitable contributors.  And now SpartanSmurf #1 wants to join the Madalorian Mercs.  He is thinking about how to make one of those AWESOME costumes.

Did I mention that I got to shake David Prowse's hand?  Who you ask?  DARTH VADER!  The man in the suit from the original trilogy!

There were lots of vendors.  I was specifically looking for loose MOTUC figures.  But there were only a few MIB.  I bought a Spikor, and some vintage loose figures.  My associated SpartanSmurf bought just about the best DEADPOOL figure that has ever been made!

I wish….

I could have stayed for the "The Independents" concert.  That would have been BOSS!

There was more Masters of the Universe representation.

There was MORE in general.  Especially Magic: The Gathering.

But with what WAS there, I was very happy and inspired.  And I look forward to going again next year.

LOOOONG HIATUS!

Sorry to keep you all waiting.

Lots has happened since May 16, (My last post.)  And I am rethinking a few things.  One of them is the whole "secret identity" thing……

Should I kill Batman, or Bruce Wayne?  Should I become "Joe Clark, Fireman?"  Should I walk away, SpartanNerd's back facing the sun?  (All three famous references.  Did you get them?)

Maybe we should co-exist, sort of like Iron Man/ Tony Stark.  This is what I am thinking.

First of all, why the long break from the blog.

I tried a giveaway.  No One Wanted What I Got.  So it seemed.  Serious discouragement.  Were all of the hits that Google showed me really non-traffic?  Next problem?  Handicapped MacBook Pro.  This one is reworking itself, however.  I type this entry on the eight year old iMac that my mother got me eight years ago.  This Beast Machine is pretty slow, but we are old friends.  And it is not handicapped in the way that the MacBook Pro is after the Great Fall.  Still, the iMac is not my favorite way to write. I have an iPhone and an iPad mini, but those are more for play than work.

So this brings me to the question.  Should I publicize this blog to my family and friends?  Pester the folks I know of FaceBook?  Promote myself on places like Pop Culture Network and He-Man.org?

Soul Searching….It's what I have to do.

In the meantime, here's what I'll be writing about soon, all things which have happened.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe ongoing series
